Boracay
is a small island in the Philippines located approximately 315 km south of Manila and 2 km off the northwest tip of Panay Island in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines. Boracay Island and its beaches have received awards from numerous travel publications and agencies.The island comprises the barangays of Manoc-Manoc, Balabag, and Yapak municipality of Malay, province of Aklan.

Short History_ ____________________

Tourism was brought to the island at the 1970s. The movie Too Late the Hero was also filmed in 1970 on locations of Boracay and Caticlan. In the 1980s, the island became a popular budget destination for backpackers, and the 1990s, Boracay's beaches were acclaimed as the best in the world.

Land and Tourism__________________

Boracay has two primary tourism beaches, The White Beach and The Bulabog Beach, both are located on opposite sides of the island’s narrow central area. White Beach faces towards the west and Bulabog Beach faces towards the east. The island also has several other beaches.

The island is administered under the Philippine Tourism Authority(PTA) and the provincial government of Aklan. Apart from its white sand beaches, Boracay is also famous for being one of the world's top destination for relaxation. It is also emerging among the top destinations for tranquility and nightlife

In 2012, Boracay was awarded as the world's best island from the international travel magazine Travel + Leisure.

Getting there and away_____________

Boracay is served by two airports in the Aklan province: one is in Kalibo and the other in Godofredo P. Ramos Airport (aka "Caticlan airport") in Malay. Most of the domestic airlines fly to Kalibo and Caticlan namely: Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, Air Philippines, Zest Air, and Seair.

The western part of the Strong Republic Nautical Highway (SRNH) passes through Caticlan, with car ferries from Roxas, Oriental Mindoro docking at the Caticlan jetty port. Several bus companies operate provincial bus routes from Manila which pass through Caticlan via the SRNH.
